Q & A – Ear Molding

1) My baby’s ear stick out or my baby’s ears are folded. Will my infant’s ears get better on their own?
Studies from Texas and Canada have shown that most ear deformities (70%) will not improve without intervention. We suggest to wait 5-7 days after the birth of your child to see if her ear shape improves prior to intervening with ear molding.2) Is it painful to apply or keep on?
No part of the procedure is painful. The device is a soft rubbery silicone and is held on by only medical grade glue and tape. Wearing the devices is not uncomfortable for your child and most don’t even realize it is on.3) Is this covered by my insurance?
YES! Most commercial insurances will cover the procedure. I am an in-network provider for UHC, Oxford, Cigna, Aetna, GHI, BCBS, Empire, HIP and 1199.4) What if we choose not to do ear molding?
Traditional techniques such as otoplasty can be offered in children 5 years or older. This involves an operation where the cartilage can be restructured using permanent sutures.
